The ISB Board of Directors and I are looking forward to hosting you for our 50th Anniversary ConventionJune 5 – 10, 2017, at Ithaca College in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. We are ramping up to the convention; here’s what we have been up to:

In June 2016 the ISB Board of Directors met on the campus of Ithaca College to tour facilities and begin to plan for over 150 recitals, presentations, and activities; dozens of vendors, and bassists from 30 different countries in one unforgettable week of connection, inspiration, and education for all of us.

Hockett Family Recital Hall

The Ithaca College Whalen Center for Music offers us terrific facilities with gorgeous concert halls, versatile performance/lecture rooms, ample space for all our vendors and luthiers under one roof. The entire building is wired with state of the art sound recording and smart classroom technology infrastructure.

Ford Hall

The nearby Chapel offers another performance venue overlooking a serine pond, a stunning vista in June.

Adjacent to the music building is the Hill Center, where our Young Bassists Program will be housed (chaired by Gaelen McCormick), along with our Adult Learner & Amateur Bassist program (chaired by Elisabeth Steves Ellison). We will also have an enormous Ben Light Gymnasium for our bass storage and our new 9am Daily Group Technique series (chaired by David Allen Moore), a series geared to and open to all ages and levels.

In the Theater Department Scene Shop nearby, Paul Hart will lead a team of ISB Luthiers in our second Build-A-Bass marathon. In 2015 at Colorado State University, working practically around the clock, this remarkable team built two basses, one of which was raffled at the convention. It is fascinating to watch a work of bass art come together over such a short period of time, and many of us enjoyed playing the first sounds on the instrument.

Ithaca College also offers on campus housing, dining facilities for all meals, and a campus pub in the Student Center, a perfect location for our after-hours gathering each night. After each evening concert of headliners, we can head over to IC Square, the campus pub to enjoy Miles Brown and his after-hours jam session band, or to shoot pool, or just relax and share adult beverages together in our usual collegial way, sharing stories and rubbing elbows with celebrities and old and new pals.

Please, please mark your calendars, and spread the word. June 5-10 promises to be an extraordinary week together in an extraordinary place. REGISTER NOW
