The solo Competition is open to all double bassists from all ethnicities and nationalities with an age limit of 32. It is held in conjunction with the BASSEUROPE biennial congress. Indiana University will be the 2019 ISB Convention Host!

Taking its cue from the unofficial state song, the International Society of Bassists will be “Back Home Again in Indiana” for its 2019 Convention, June 3rd through 8th, at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana.  The ISB held its 1995 convention at Indiana University, and returns at the invitation of Dean Gwyn Richards and our 2019 Site Host Kurt Muroki, professor of bass at the Jacobs School of Music. Volume 9 of the Online Journal of Bass Research presents “Koussevitzky’s Double Bass Repertoire: A Reassessment” by Andrew Kohn. Dr. Kohn’s research presents an overview and examination of Serge Koussevitzky’s double bass repertoire. The study includes works that Koussevitzky composed, works composed by Glière, solo bass music, chamber music, and transcriptions. The article also surveys compositions that were composed for, but remained unperformed by Koussevitzky.
